Speedtest in the browser

With the currently available web technologies, a speed test in the browser is always limited by the browser environment used. This leads to possible loss in achievement of the maximum speed or generates strongly fluctuating results. cnlab offers a speed test in the browser that can reach speeds of 1 Gbit/s with the current hardware and browser version.

cnlab recommends using the cnlab Speedtest in the browser for a quick test, but installing the desktop and mobile apps by cnlab for a precise analysis.

Further limitations by browser plugins and expansions:

  • Ad blocker
An ad blocker scans all data connections for possible advertising. Therefore, the speed test must share the present browser resources with the plugin. Additionally, scanning of the data connection limits the speed. Tests in the cnlab lab have confirmed this behavior in some ad blockers. We recommend deactivating the ad blocker plugin for a speed test.
  • JSON or XML Viewer (developer tools)
Various viewer plugins scan the data traffic for defined language formats and offer a prepared view of the data. In some cases, this will limit the speed experience.
  • Developer tools
When developer tools are activated, the browser will deeply affect various processes on the website. This way, the speed test cannot use the maximum performance and resources, and is limited in its performance.

cnlab recommends using the incognito mode for sporadic tests in the browser. This deactivates all plugins and expansions that can influence the performance. For a precise analysis and continuous measurements, use the desktop and mobile apps by cnlab.
